After arriving at the end of National Route 3 and having your picture taken with the sign indicating the distance to Buenos Aires and Alaska, you can walk along a footbridge to get close to the coast of the Beagle Channel. There you will find a landscape of snow-capped mountains, forest and marine fauna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lapataia in the Yag\u00e1n language means \u201cbay of the good forest or good wood\u201d. It was a place where the native nomadic canoeists lived, as it is protected from the south-westerly winds. Together with Lapataia Bay it was part of an ancient fjord formed in the last Ice Age. Here we go down and walk along the shore of the lake to get the best picture in a landscape surrounded by mountains covered with lengas and \u00f1ires. When we talk about glaciers, many people think of glacier tongues like the Perito Moreno in El Calafate, but in this case it is a \u201cglacial cirque\u201d, a mass of ice located on the mountainside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is reached by a road that connects the town with several hotels and ends where a ski centre used to be a few years ago. There you will find a beautiful tea house and a mountain refuge. But in order to take pictures of the city it is necessary to walk up what used to be the ski slope. Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse is located 20 km from Ushuaia in the archipelago that bears its name, named after a French scientific expedition that arrived in the region at the end of the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was built to warn sailors of the shallows. The \u201cemerald\u201d colour is due to its waters that come from the melting of the Ojo del Albino Glacier. Can you imagine a photo in the lagoon surrounded by an enchanted forest?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get there you have to walk about 5km through the Patagonian forest and peat bogs. This place also offers one of the best views of Tierra del Fuego. Besides being surrounded by mountains and forest, the base of the valley is covered with peat, a spongy mass formed by mosses and other decomposing plants that freezes and covers with snow in the winter. You start by leaving Ushuaia to observe the bay, the Beagle Channel, then you will approach the most emblematic mountains near the city, such as Mount Olivia and Cinco Hermanos. Then you will fly over the Tierra Mayor Valley and see the glaciers and lagoons that cannot be seen from the road.
