For the convenience of visitors to Cerro Castor, there is free parking at the base of the mountain, which can accommodate up to 600 cars. If you do not have a car, there are private transfers that take tourists to the base of the mountain.

It is the last ski centre to open its doors to tourists from all over the world in 1999. It is also the most developed winter resort in Argentina and the one that offers the most options for snow sports. It can receive 6000 skiers and their family groups since there are attractions for children and adults.

The ski season starts in June and lasts until October, so there are several months to enjoy the activities that can be done in the best snow in the world. Of course, Cerro Castor is one of the tourist attractions, but in Ushuaia there are many more. winter centres with activities.

How to get to the ski slopes?

To get to the slopes it is necessary to take one of the twelve lifts offered by Cerro Castor. The Del Bosque chairlift, for example, starts operating around ten o'clock in the morning and a little earlier for those who have scheduled classes. It is the only lift available until 4.45 pm, the rest close at 4.15 pm. The service is organised in such a way that there is no waiting time to go up the hill.

The ski centre has 29 slopes with different levels of difficulty, some available for beginners and others for people who usually practise the sport with great knowledge. The slopes approved by the International Ski Federation are: 9 green slopes - easier slopes; 6 blue - slopes of intermediate difficulty; 8 red - difficult slopes and 3 black - very difficult slopes. Thus there are 30 kilometres of slopes available. There is also a snowpark. If the trip is with children and the parents want to ski they can leave them at the ski and snowboard school where they will learn the first steps to skiing, have fun in groups of new friends and are looked after by the instructors. There is a snow garden for children from 3 to 5 years old. In Ushuaia, there are several winter resorts with different day and night activities, which is a different experience from the usual ones, for example in Tierra Mayor Valley. Cerro Castor is the best known and most developed in the country.

Not to be missed activities in Cerro Castor

The most popular sport is skiing, but you can also go snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating or walk up the slopes. The latter option allows you to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of the area by ascending only once. The skier's pass includes skating and cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing is highly recommended as it uses all the muscles in a physically very complete sport.

Snowboarding is a sport with boards attached to boots that allows for good snowboarding. To do any of the above activities you must wearing the right clothes. A warm, waterproof jacket and ski trousers are essential for a good experience. Also snow boots, goggles, hat and gloves to protect you from the cold and the sun.

The best snow in the world, is in Ushuaia

Cerro Castor, in addition to all the services it offers, has an additional feature, which is that it has the best snow in the world because of its strategic geographical location.

The latitude, temperature and ocean currents make the snow in Ushuaia lighter, softer and fluffier, called "powder snow", so sleds and boards glide much better and children can play with it as it is very pleasant to the touch. In Cerro Castor there are machines that keep the snow even for skiers and snow cannons that fill in places where there is less snow or where it has been passed through more frequently, leaving spaces without snow.

Gastronomy, the best dishes at El Cerro Castor

The mountain also offers regional dishes so that lunches are taken care of while enjoying a day of skiing.
