End of the World Train
The activity starts from your accommodation between 7/8 am. We will ride the first 8km and arrive at the station of the Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino, the Train of the End of the World.
After forty years of non-operation, in 1994 the Train of the End of the World resumed part of the old route that the prisoners' train used to take, which departed from the prison of Ushuaia, located in the centre of the city, towards the slopes of Mount Susana with the purpose of obtaining materials (wood and stone) for the construction of the same. On board the train you will be able to listen to the history of the prisoners who used to come daily to cut wood up to this area, and enjoy the magnificent landscapes, composed by the zigzagging Pipo River, the La Macarena waterfall, the tree cemetery and the majestic lenga forest.
In this way you will visit an inaccessible part of the Tierra del Fuego National Park, where you will be able to enjoy this experience on board a vintage railway, with its steam locomotives and elegant cars that have large windows and an individual audio system, which offers the possibility of listening to the history in 7 different languages, in order to not only appreciate the surrounding nature, but also to know a very important part of the history of Ushuaia.
Tierra del Fuego National Park
Once we reach the end of our journey (National Park Station) we will continue into the Tierra del Fuego National Park (an area reserved for the protection of the sub-Antarctic forest, native flora and fauna). We will visit the Ensenada Bay, the Acigami Lake (glacial lake of more than 5 square km), the Alakush Interpretation Centre and then we will continue towards Lapataia Bay, end of the Pan-American Route N° 3.
From there, once we have crossed the footbridges, we will start our return to the city of Ushuaia.
Back in the city of Ushuaia, you will have approximately 1 hour for lunch on your own, before starting the second part of the tour.
Penguin Sailing
The excursion starts by setting sail from the tourist pier in the morning or in the afternoon aboard a state-of-the-art catamaran. We will visit Isla de los Pájaros, Isla de los Lobos and Les Éclaireurs lighthouse, and then continue our trip to Isla Martillo where the catamaran will set its bow on the beach to observe the colony of penguins that live on the island.
