Sailing in the Beagle Channel: A walk around the penguin colony

A classic in Ushuaia is to sail along the emblematic Beagle Channel to the Penguin Colony on a boat that allows you to enjoy a dreamlike mountain scenery that will relax you with the best photos of the place. The navigation departs from Ushuaia to enter the Archipelago of the Bridges Islands and there to visit the Isla de los Pajaros with its autochthonous avifauna. Among them you can see grey gulls, geese, ducks and albatrosses among other species. Then, we approach the Isla de los Lobos where you can enjoy them from the boat, interacting and getting to know their habitat from very close. 

An emblematic photo not to forget to take is at the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, an icon of the city of Ushuaia that you can't miss.

The queen of the excursion is the well known penguin colony, where you can watch Magellanic and Gentoo Penguins, the species that are found in these latitudes during the summer season. It is a beautiful natural spectacle, as these elegant penguins are not a common sight, so the excursion is a marvellous experience for young and old alike. With great caution so as not to frighten them, the boat will approach to take the best photos of the moment and see them up close. The best time to see them is between spring and summer, when they migrate and return the following year. Navigation in the Beagle Channel is an adventure that can be combined with another excursion during the day and lasts approximately three hours.

Get to know the natural beauty of Tierra del Fuego National Park

The National Park is a must-see at the end of the world, whether for walks among lenga trees and peat bogs enjoying the tranquillity of nature, to get to know the native flora and fauna or to enjoy a ride on the End of the World Train. All options are valid, and in spring the park dresses in colours to welcome travellers who want to get to know these latitudes. The Train to the End of the World is perfectly combined with the ride inside the National Park, You travel for a while listening to the history of the train and the work of the men of the prison and then continue the walk for as long as you wish.

Taking the path and bordering the Lapataia River you can enjoy the landscape at the Acigami Lake (ex Roca), a lake of glacial origin with crystalline waters where you can take pictures and rest for a moment. Its waters are binational, shared between Argentina and Chile. The lake has 10 square kilometres of which a third part belongs to our territory. 

It is also advisable to know Lapataia Bay inside Tierra del Fuego National Park, It is a place sheltered by the Andes Mountain Range, full of forest and nature. Going north you can visit Ensenada Bay or you can also take a walk to the Pipo River. A not-to-be-missed tour in Ushuaia is to visit the impressive National Park with all the natural attractions it has to offer.

A walk full of adventure if ever there was one, the 4×4 adventure It has it all: places full of untouched nature that can only be crossed in 4 x 4 vehicles, incredible landscapes of the famous Fuegian lakes and unparalleled fun.

For those who want to enjoy the adventure, a 4×4 ride is a spectacular option that starts on Route 3 until you reach the Garibaldi Pass, the place where you cross the Andes Mountains to get to meet with the Escondido Lake and the immense Fagnano Lake. The views from the viewpoint are incredible for taking some nice panoramic photos of the place at altitude. You can enjoy the coastline and have a refreshment between the mountains.
