Cerro Castor is located on the slopes of Cerro Krund, only 26 kilometres from the city of Ushuaia, and is easily accessible, as Route 3 leading to the mountain is in excellent condition and fully paved. How to get to the ski slopes?
To get to the slopes it is necessary to take one of the twelve lifts offered by Cerro Castor. The Del Bosque chairlift, for example, starts operating around ten o'clock in the morning and a little earlier for those who have scheduled classes. It is the only lift available until 4.45 pm, the rest close at 4.15 pm. The service is organised in such a way that there is no waiting time to go up the hill.
The ski centre has 29 slopes with different levels of difficulty, some available for beginners and others for people who usually practise the sport with great knowledge. The slopes approved by the International Ski Federation are: 9 green slopes - easier slopes; 6 blue - slopes of intermediate difficulty; 8 red - difficult slopes and 3 black - very difficult slopes. Thus there are 30 kilometres of slopes available. There is also a snowpark. If the trip is with children and the parents want to ski they can leave them at the ski and snowboard school where they will learn the first steps to skiing, have fun in groups of new friends and are looked after by the instructors. There is a snow garden for children from 3 to 5 years old. In Ushuaia, there are several winter resorts with different day and night activities, which is a different experience from the usual ones, for example in Tierra Mayor Valley. The most popular sport is skiing, but you can also go snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating or walk up the slopes. The latter option allows you to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of the area by ascending only once. The skier's pass includes skating and cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing is highly recommended as it uses all the muscles in a physically very complete sport.
Snowboarding is a sport with boards attached to boots that allows for good snowboarding. To do any of the above activities you must wearing the right clothes. A warm, waterproof jacket and ski trousers are essential for a good experience. Also snow boots, goggles, hat and gloves to protect you from the cold and the sun.
