PUERTO ALMANZA: NATURE AND DELIGHTS OF THE BEAGLE CHANNEL
Although this fishing port located almost 70 km from Ushuaia is consolidating as a tourist attraction, it is not visited by large buses or passenger contingents. Puerto Almanza has become well known because it is in this area where the spider crab that can be tasted in Ushuaia's restaurants is extracted. But to get to know the whole process of the work of the artisanal fishermen and to enjoy this crustacean fresh from the sea, the ideal place is here.

The excursion starts in the morning when we pick you up at your accommodation and head northeast on National Route 3. There we will make some stops to observe the Carbajal Valley and Tierra Mayor where the winter resorts and most of the trekking trails are located.
This glacial valley offers the best views of the peaks of the Andes, small glaciers and large expanses of peat.
We continue a few more kilometres and start driving along Provincial Route J, through the most enclosed area of the valley, with a lush forest of lengas and ñires. The Lasifashaj River (river of the swallows in the Selk'nam language) will accompany us along the entire route.
About 30 km along this gravel road, the forest opens up and we can see the coast of the Beagle Channel, Gable Island and Navarino Island, where we can see Puerto Williams, a Chilean town located on the southern coast of the Channel.
From the coast we will head east. You will notice that the substrate through which the route passes is no longer rock but silty sediment, since we will be passing through an area of glacial deposits. This is due to the fact that in the last Ice Age, the glacier that occupied what is today the Beagle Channel, moved sediments in that area and deposited them there.
After a few minutes we reach an area where the few trees that are there have grown up in the south-westerly winds. There we will go down to take pictures with the typical "flag trees".

We will take the road in the opposite direction until we reach Puerto Almanza, this village has only one street along the waterfront. There you will be able to observe the picturesque houses of sheet metal and wood decorated with buoys, crab traps and ropes; materials used in the work of these locals.
Here they will be waiting for us with a spectacular lunch with regional flavours to die for!
And before returning we will take a short walk between the forest and the sea to be able to contemplate this unique combination of landscapes in Argentina.
LAGOS OFF ROAD
This excursion stands out because it is done in four-wheel drive vehicles, so the groups will be quite small. Our local guides will take you on this great adventure in the heart of the island.
Tierra del Fuego has a special feature: while in the rest of the American continent the Andes run from north to south, here they run from west to east and Ushuaia lies on the south side of the main massif of the mountain range.

On this excursion we will cross the mountains to the northern slope, but we will still be in Argentina. At the highest point of the Ruta Nacional N 3 we will descend to view the lakes Escondido and Fagnano (Khami) from above at the Mirador del Paso Garibaldi. These lakes were also formed when the great ice fields retreated from the region 15 thousand years ago.

From there we will descend to the north side to enter a track in the middle of the forest that can only be crossed by 4×4 vehicles. And here hold on tight because the adrenaline starts! The truck will start to shake in this track through a centenary forest of lenga trees. You will be able to see the impact of the beavers because of their dams and also the logging of old axemen.

Then we will arrive at the largest lake in Tierra del Fuego, Lake Fagnano. There you will be able to go down and feel the strength of its waves. You will be able to walk along the shore and feel how cold the water is.
We will finish this excursion in a refuge in the middle of the forest, which includes a starter, main course and dessert accompanied by a good Argentinean wine.
NATIONAL PARK WITH TREKKING AND CANOES
If you have already done the traditional excursion to the National Park and were left with a taste of nothing or if you love hiking and a bit of adventure, we really recommend this excursion.
This is a full day tour and is usually in small groups. Unlike the previous excursions, here we depart west of Ushuaia. Tierra del Fuego National Park is located 12 km from the city centre and borders with Chile.

Trekking and canoeing activities can be in the morning or afternoon depending on weather and tide conditions.
During the trek we will learn about the flora and fauna that inhabits the region from our guide, who will show you about the wildlife that you will be able to see along the way. He will also tell you about the nomadic canoeists who lived in the region and you will surely be able to appreciate some of the many archaeological sites protected within the Park.

We will have lunch in an area of "glampings", a kind of dome-shaped shelters exclusively for our passengers. This place is located at the foot of the Lapataia River, the main riverbed of this protected area.
For the canoeing activity you don't need any experience, they are inflatable boats where each one will go with a boatman guide, we will give you waterproof boots and trousers and life jackets.

We will start paddling, conditions permitting, from Lake Acigami, reach the source of the Lapataia River and paddle downstream through very calm waters. After paddling for a few kilometres, the waters will open up towards Lapataia Bay, which belongs to the Beagle Channel. There we will reach the coast and we will be able to walk along some wooden footbridges to get the best pictures of this landscape and also to take pictures with the sign at the end of the Panamerican Route.
These excursions are available in both summer and winter. You can find more details of these excursions on this page or feel free to contact us to make your reservation.
