What is the weather like in Ushuaia?

Know Ushuaia's weather in every season

Ushuaia's climate is tundra, with very cold winters and abundant snowfall. Summers, meanwhile, are temperate, short and mild. Autumn and spring are transitional seasons, usually cold and rainy.

Although each season has its own special attraction, summer is usually considered the most pleasant season in terms of climate. Here's what each season has to offer.

Summer: Even in the summer, Ushuaia has low temperatures, with highs around 14°C and lows around 5.2°C. Also, as all year round, there is plenty of rainfall, high humidity exceeding 70%, together with strong winds blowing from the west. Due to Ushuaia's southern latitude, this season has the special attraction of having very long days with practically 17 hours of natural light, allowing more time to enjoy different excursions to the natural attractions of the region.

Autumn: In this season temperatures decrease, with maximum temperatures around 10°C and minimum temperatures around 2°C. The other climatic characteristics remain similar to the summer, i.e. plenty of rainfall, high humidity and strong winds. Among the most famous attractions in autumn, the Ushuaia International Festival (held in autumn or spring depending on the organisation), with a series of classical music concerts, some paid and some free, with the participation of world-renowned national and international musicians.

Winter: In this season temperatures drop even further, with highs around 4.5°C and lows around -1.5°C, even though they can easily drop to -10°C at night. Also characteristic of winter are the few hours of daylight (no more than 7 hours a day) and heavy snowfalls. Due to its climate, winter has the great attraction of hosting the Snow Season, which starts in June and lasts until September, allowing you to enjoy various winter sports. Also in this season, the Winter Solstice is celebrated, the longest night of the year, with shows, competitions and recreational activities.

Spring: In this season temperatures begin to rise gradually, with highs around 13°C and lows of 4ºC. Humidity also decreases compared to other months, while rainfall remains present. For many, this is the best season to travel to Ushuaia, as it combines both an increase in the hours of natural light, allowing for a greater number of outdoor activities, and a decrease in the prices of tourist services, as it is framed in the low season.
